Two teen-agers were stabbed during a fight outside a Carl’s Jr. Restaurant in Simi Valley, police said Sunday.

David Fields, 16, a Simi Valley resident and Royal High School student, was listed in critical condition at Simi Valley Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said. David Whale, 18, of Simi Valley was in fair condition.

The stabbing occurred Saturday at 11 p.m. after Whale apparently got into an argument with a man outside the popular student hangout on East Los Angeles Avenue, Police Lt. Neal Rein said.

The disagreement escalated and the man, who had 15 to 20 people with him, threatened Whale with a knife.

David Fields tried to come to Whale’s aid, Rein said, and in the ensuing fight both were stabbed several times. Rein said details were sketchy, but two men may have been armed with knives.

One of the attackers then robbed a 13-year-old girl of her purse in the parking lot and fled on foot.

Police said it appears that the assailants may be members of a San Fernando Valley gang. It was unknown whether the victims have any gang affiliations, Rein said.

As of Sunday afternoon, no one had been arrested.
