A poll conducted for Sports Illustrated shows that Americans are more passionate about sports than ever and that pro football remains the nation’s most popular sport.
Sports Poll ‘91, conducted by Lieberman Research, Inc., of New York, was based on mail questionnaires completed by a nationwide sample of 2,320 adults, age 18 and older in November and December of 1990. It reported that 73% of Americans are interested in sports. Among the interests, 60% listed pro football. Baseball received 52%, followed by college football, 40%; fishing, 37%; pro basketball, 34%; college basketball, 32%; professional boxing, 30%; bowling, 29%, and auto racing, 27%.
