NBC News to Trim Boston Bureau: It said it is laying off three technicians but will retain correspondent Fred Briggs and producer Bill Theodore. It said it will rely on free-lance technicians when needed, as it does in Dallas and Denver. The reductions come after a recent study of ways to cut costs. More layoffs are probable, as are other bureau closings or cuts, according to an NBC executive who requested anonymity. NBC, which closed its San Francisco office this year, has nine domestic bureaus and 13 overseas bureaus.
