Monrovia : New Fee for Filming

Share

Film companies will have to pay Old Town Monrovia merchants whose business is interrupted by movie or television filming $200 a day under amended guidelines passed Tuesday by the City Council.

The California Film Commission objected to the new fee, warning that such charges would discourage the film industry from choosing locations in Monrovia.

But acting City Manager Donald Hopper said the city is sympathetic to business owners who have complained that they lose customers when pedestrians on downtown Myrtle Avenue have to wait while sidewalk or street scenes are filmed in front of their shops.
