SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : Dodgers in Playoff Preview?

The Southland’s three major league baseball teams will be seen on television this weekend, along with two professional golf tournaments, six auto races and the National Hockey League draft.

Baseball: Although the season’s halfway point is still two weeks away, what could be a preview of the National League Championship Series takes place at Dodger Stadium when the Pittsburgh Pirates play the Dodgers today at noon on CBS (Channels 2 and 8). Cost-conscious CBS will not have a pregame show.

The Angels will face the Detroit Tigers today at 4:30 p.m. on KTLA Channel 5, and Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN. The San Diego Padres will visit the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday with KUSI Channel 51’s coverage beginning at 11:15 a.m.

Golf: The PGA tour stops at Williamsburg, Va., for the Anheuser-Busch tournament today at 1:30 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m., on Channels 4, 36 and 39. ESPN will carry the Paine-Webber Senior Invitational today at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 11 a.m.

Auto Racing: ESPN’s coverage of the 24 Hours of Le Mans begins today at 6:50 a.m., and continues with an update at 1 p.m. The finish will be shown Sunday at 6:30 a.m. Also on tap is the NASCAR Carolina Pride-Budweiser 200 (1 p.m., today, Nashville Network); USAC Midgets on “Saturday Night Thunder” (6 p.m., ESPN); NASCAR’s Michigan 400 (10 a.m., Sunday, Channels 2 and 8); the Nissan Grand Prix du Mardi Gras, (11:30 a.m., Sunday, Channels 4, 36 and 39) and CART’s Budweiser-G.I. Joe’s 200 (1 p.m., Sunday, ESPN.)

Pro Hockey: SportsChannel airs the NHL draft today at 9 a.m. The Kings are not scheduled to pick until the second round.
