Baggerly’s Scare Tactics Shameless

Share

I have never seen such a shameless attempt to mold public opinion by resorting to scare tactics as that used by Pat Baggerly and the Environmental Coalition of Ventura County in their comments with respect to the Weldon Canyon landfill. How Baggerly and the coalition can concoct a scenario in which landfill-marauding sea gulls carrying AIDS-infected condoms pose a health risk to Ventura County residents is beyond me.

Does Baggerly have any data to show that other county landfills--Simi Valley, Bailard and Toland Road--also pose a real and imminent threat of AIDS infection? If so, why did Baggerly and the coalition fail to speak out when the environmental impact report for extending the Simi landfill was circulated a few years ago? Why did she and the coalition keep silent during the recent public meeting regarding the Bailard Landfill extension? Baggerly was present and did not address any environmental issue, let alone AIDS.

If Baggerly and the coalition don’t want a dump in Weldon Canyon, let them state their objections directly. Don’t try to fool us with bogus environmental concerns.
