If You Just Can’t Hold the Mayo . . .

Share

“Hold the mayo” is a familiar refrain for those cutting down on fatty foods. But now there’s Kraft Free nonfat mayonnaise and nonfat Miracle Whip Free.

The fat-free mayonnaise has 12 calories per tablespoon, compared to 60 to 100 per tablespoon for regular mayo. The nonfat Miracle Whip Free has 20 calories per tablespoon, compared to 70 in a tablespoon of the regular version.

“Try them,” suggests Diane Whelan, a Beverly Hills registered dietitian.

“I think they are wonderful. If you like the taste, these fat-free products are an effective way to cut down on fat. If you don’t want to switch to the nonfat products exclusively, use them in dishes that have other flavorful ingredients so the taste is not as noticeable.”
