AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Savala Pitches Rocky 5-Inning No-Hitter for San Fernando

Share

San Fernando’s Rick Savala pitched a no-hitter and teammate Jose Nunez had a monstrous home run nullified when he missed second base in San Fernando’s wacky 11-1 American Legion District 20 win over Van Nuys-Notre Dame on Wednesday at San Fernando. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Savala, in throwing his first career no-hitter, allowed an unearned run in the first inning, then settled down to throw four shutout innings, walking five and striking out two. Nunez, though, stole the show with a home run that landed on nearby Laurel Canyon Boulevard on the fly. When Nunez missed second base in his trot, however, he was tagged out.

Savala (2-2) received help from David Rojas, Nunez and Robert Garcia, who each had two hits. San Fernando improved to 7-6.
