Trustee Changes School Boards

Joe Mark, a trustee for six years on the Hermosa Beach elementary school board and the father of two teen-agers, has resigned to become a trustee on the South Bay Union High School District board.

Mark’s appointment, which expires in November, was approved unanimously last week by the five-member high school board. He will fill a vacancy created by the appointment of high school Trustee Bill Beverly to the El Camino College Board.

Mark, who was chosen from among eight applicants, said his term on the Hermosa Beach board was to expire this year. He added that he had been considering campaigning for the high school board in November, when Beverly’s slot opened up.

“I’ve got both my kids at Redondo Union now--my youngest graduated Tuesday from Hermosa,” Mark said. “Now I’ll be able to see both my kids through school.”

Mark’s departure is the second in less than a month from the Hermosa Beach school board. Susan Meyer resigned June 12, saying she was having a difficult time making it to all of the meetings. Meyer’s term was also due to expire this year.

Mark said the Hermosa Beach board must decide who will fill his and Meyer’s posts.
