Council Approves Smaller Budget

Share

The Redondo Beach City Council this week unanimously approved a $56.7-million budget for fiscal year 1991-92, which starts Monday, that is about 1% less than last year’s $57.3-million budget.

The conservative budget follows warnings in May from City Manager William E. Kirchhoff that if the city did not tighten its spending, it would face an average $2-million annual deficit.

The budget calls for freezing 13 city positions and eliminating three.

The council also approved Councilman Joe White’s motion to replace $29,010 in the budget for instrumental music programs in local schools. Money for the program would come from a surplus in the general fund, leaving about $225,000 in the fund.
