A 29-year-old man was killed while he was washing his pickup truck at a Paradise Hills car wash, police said.

Two men drove up to Michael Wayne Heimer at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday as he was cleaning his white, 1987 Toyota truck at a car wash connected to Paradise Hills Dairy at 6320 Potomac St., Lt. Dan Berglund said.

Witnesses saw the men talk briefly, and then a shot was fired, Berglund said. Heimer was hit in the chest with a bullet from a large-caliber handgun and died at the scene as the pair took his truck and sped away.

The small, foreign car that brought them there followed the truck, Berglund said, adding that police are unsure if more than three people were involved in the theft.

Heimer’s truck was found within an hour in the 4100 block of Beta Street, Berglund said.

Heimer lived on the 2000 block of Honey Drive in San Diego.
