Journalists Honored for Ethnic Coverage
Members of the Los Angeles media and two local television stations were honored by the Multi-Ethnic Coalition on Friday for demonstrating sensitivity toward the special needs of ethnic and racial groups.
The coalition’s top media award went to the news division of KCBS, Channel 2, for sending a local reporting team to Armenia to report on events there. Plaques also were presented to KTTV, Channel 11, and seven individuals, including reporter Ken Reich of The Times.
The Multi-Ethnic Coalition is composed of a dozen ethnic organizations with the purpose of encouraging the media to take greater interest in issues involving racial and ethnic groups in order to create public awareness and generate positive action. The coalition’s first annual awards were presented at a luncheon at the Biltmore Hotel.
