San Diego police arrested 26-year-old Troy Bartholomew at his Winona Avenue apartment Friday in connection with the shooting of an El Centro physician Tuesday, police said.

When Bartholomew refused to come out, officers sent in a police dog that found Bartholomew hiding in a hallway linen closet, officials said.

Bartholomew was reportedly taken to Harborview Hospital for treatment of a bite in the leg before being questioned and jailed.

Police said Bartholomew is a suspect in the shooting of Dr. Hassim Seedat at 33rd Street and Lincoln Drive. Seedat, a gastroenterologist, is recovering from his wounds at Mercy Hospital.

Police said that Seedat and Bartholomew knew each other, and when Seedat refused to give Bartholomew a loan, Bartholomew pulled out a gun and began shooting.

No weapon was recovered when police arrested Bartholomew, police said.
