A Simi Valley man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnaping and raping his former girlfriend, police said Tuesday.

Richard Arthur Mann, 57, was arrested Monday and booked at the Ventura County Jail, Lt. Robert Klamser said. Mann was later released after posting bail, Klamser said.

Mann’s former girlfriend, an unidentified 46-year-old Simi Valley woman, informed police Monday that Mann had kidnaped and forcibly raped her the night before at his apartment, Klamser said.

The woman told police that she had been driving east on Alamo Street near Yosemite Avenue about 6 p.m. Sunday when Mann pulled up next to her in his car and forced her to stop. She said Mann got in her car and began punching her in the face, knocking her unconscious.

She told police that when she regained consciousness, Mann was sexually assaulting her in his apartment on Los Nogales Road. The victim said Mann held her against her will for several hours before he finally agreed to drive her back to her car at 2 a.m. Monday.

The woman drove home and called police. The victim was later examined at Ventura County Medical Center, where minor head and body injuries were found to be consistent with her account of the assault, police said.

Mann was pulled over and arrested by police about 6 p.m. Monday while driving near Walnut Street and Scofield Avenue, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on kidnaping and rape charges Tuesday in Ventura County Municipal Court, authorities said.
