PORT HUENEME : Motorcycle Crash Injures Officer
An Oxnard policeman suffered a broken leg and a broken foot in Port Hueneme on Tuesday when his motorcycle collided with a Buick driven by a Port Hueneme woman.
Officer Ernie Orozco, 32, was riding north along Channel Islands Boulevard at 9:05 a.m. when Mary Louise Oka, 57, pulled away from a stop sign on Bolger Way and crossed his path, said Port Hueneme Police Sgt. Fernando Estrella.
Orozco was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center for treatment, but Oka was not injured, Estrella said.
Estrella said investigators are trying to determine whether Oka’s car struck Orozco’s police-issue Kawasaki 1000, or whether Orozco put the motorcycle on its side in an attempt to avoid hitting the car full-force.
Estrella said Oxnard and Port Hueneme police often travel through each other’s cities to reach parts of their own beats.
No charges have been filed.
