* Match: President George Bush and South Korean President Roh Tae Woo teamed up Tuesday in a tennis match against their ambassadors. The presidents took on Donald Gregg, the U. S. ambassador to Seoul, and Hyun Hong Joo, the South Korean ambassador to Washington, on a White House court on a muggy, 90-degree afternoon. Bush and Roh were leading 2-1 as media people were escorted off the court, but Bush later reported the results at the formal state dinner for Roh: “I know there’s an awful lot of interest in this . . . so, I’m proud to report that the president and I won both matches.”

* Mismatch?: A descendant of Thomas Jefferson and his slave mistress has become a federal judge in Pennsylvania. Historical documents indicate Timothy K. Lewis, 36, is the great-great-great-great-great-grandson of Jefferson and Sally Hemmings, a slave who was the third President’s mistress. Lewis did not mention his ancestry at his swearing-in Monday in Pittsburgh, but said he owed retiring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall a “profound debt of gratitude.”

* Rematch: Donald Trump, who publicly dumped girlfriend Marla Maples last week, announced Wednesday that he will marry the aspiring actress after all. Trump dropped news of the engagement in a phone call to a syndicated television show, saying he gave Maples a diamond engagement ring Tuesday night: “She’s something special. It’s worked out great.” Trump had confirmed last week he was seeing model Carla Bruni.

* Missing: Model Ashley Montana, featured on the cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, has been reported missing in Florida, along with her husband, Paul, New York police said Wednesday. The couple was believed to have gone sailing, but Coast Guard officials in Florida told authorities in New York--where the model’s mother filed a missing person report--that they had no report of any missing boats in the area.
