Building Fee to Benefit Parks OKd

Share

The Lawndale City Council has given final approval to a new development fee that is expected to raise about $25,000 a year to improve city parks.

In a 4-0 vote, with Councilman William Johnson absent, the council approved a $400-per-unit fee on construction of new apartments, condominiums and single-family homes. The fee also will be applied to existing housing units that require major remodeling or enlargement. Owner-occupied residences and subsidized housing for the elderly or the disabled are exempt.

Revenue generated by the fee is earmarked for park improvement projects, such as the installation of lights at Roger Anderson and Jane Addams parks.
