A 46-year-old Lancaster man apparently drowned in his pool and his body was found by his 15-year-old son, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The dead man was identified as Richard Nelson, Sgt. Noel Lanier said.

Nelson’s son found his father floating face down in the pool at their home in the 3300 block of West Avenue J-2 near Mariposa Drive about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday and pulled him out, Lanier said.

Deputies tried to revive Nelson by administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Lanier said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives called to the scene indicated that Nelson apparently drowned, but were awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the cause of his death, Lanier said. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office said the results were not available late Thursday.
