PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : First Offer Sent to Top Draft Pick Lyght

Share

The Rams, as scheduled, faxed their first contract proposal to unsigned No. 1 draft choice Todd Lyght Friday, and Bob Woolf, Lyght’s chief agent, said the talks would continue through the weekend.

Apparently, the Rams offered a four- or five-year deal worth about $900,000 per season to the cornerback from Notre Dame, but Woolf declined to comment on the offer.

“We’re going to continue negotiating, see if we can’t get this done,” Woolf said Friday from his office in Boston.

Lyght is sitting out the Rams’ voluntary mini-camp.

So far, only five NFL first-round selections have signed contracts.

The Rams’ second- and fourth-round picks, linebacker Roman Phifer and cornerback Robert Bailey, are also unsigned, but attending the camp. Both said they expected to be signed by Wednesday.
