PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Defensive End Mike Wise a No-Show

Share

Reserve defensive end Mike Wise, who reported to camp Friday night with other Raider veterans, was a no-show for Saturday’s morning meeting and afternoon practice.

It was not known whether Wise’s absence was due to a last-minute contract complication. “All I know is that he’s not here, and I don’t know why,” Coach Art Shell said.

Wise is represented by Newport Beach-based agent Leigh Steinberg, who could not be reached for comment. Wise was one of several Raider veterans who were unsigned as camp approached. He had not signed a contract when he reported to Oxnard, but had reportedly agreed to terms.

To reduce their roster to 80, the Raiders released five players, including linebacker Ron Burton, who was waived because of a knee injury. . . . Shell on Marcus Allen’s arrival: “I was happy to see him here. He’s ready to go to work. I’m looking forward to it. He’s no more special than anyone else.”

With Allen in camp, the Raiders have six unsigned veterans: defensive linemen Bob Golic and Scott Davis, offensive linemen Don Mosebar and Bruce Wilkerson, and kickers Jeff Jaeger and Jeff Gossett. . . . First-round pick Todd Marinovich remains the only unsigned draft choice.
