Taking Away the Music
Gov. Wilson is planning to reduce spending in education. His most devastating slice will cut through the elementary through high school music departments.
My parents were without funds for music when I was young. If it hadn’t been for the music program at my school, I would not have had the opportunity to study music. I am now in my senior year and looking forward to a career as a concert violinist.
I didn’t begin private lessons until my sophomore year. My public school music lessons were invaluable.
How many young people will never know the value and beauty that music brings into their lives if Mr. Wilson takes this priceless slice of the arts from them and ultimately from society?
