The wife of a man who allegedly set up several booby traps and bombs in their home as a measure against crime was arrested Tuesday, authorities said. Shirley Rosenkrantz, 44, was booked on suspicion of using an explosive device with intent to injure, Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Erickson said.

Her husband, Gene Rosenkrantz, 58, was arrested Friday outside their El Monte home after police responded to an explosion at the home. “(Mrs. Rosenkrantz) had knowledge of the bombs and the booby traps and was aware her husband constructed them,” Detective Ken Whery said in explaining the woman’s arrest.

Gene Rosenkrantz had allegedly booby-trapped the home on Garvey Avenue to protect against burglars, he said. One of the bombs exploded at their home at 5:45 p.m. Friday, but no injuries were reported. “They didn’t have a burglar alarm but they did have pipe bombs,” Whery said.
