Boys’ Home Nets $15,000 From Benefit

The Sycamores, a residential treatment center for abused and abandoned boys in Altadena, will receive $15,000 raised at the “Dinners From the Heart” benefit held June 25-26 at Los Angeles-area restaurants. Major sponsor was Alain Gayot of Gault Millau. Co-sponsors were Moet & Chandon and San Pellegrino Water.

* The Natural History Museum has received more than $171,000, proceeds from the March 9 Dinosaur Ball. Major contributors included George C. Page, Baker & Hostetler Founders’ Trust, Carolyn P. Farris, Petersen Publishing Co., Carla and Rudolph J. Rehms.

* Los Angeles Regional Foodbank received a $15,000 contribution from GTE California in Thousand Oaks. The funds will aid 73 nonprofit agencies throughout Los Angeles County.

* The Connection Project at Coeur d’ Alene School in Venice received notice July 15 of a second $50,000 grant from the Weingart Foundation to fund staff to meet the needs of homeless students. The project offers tutoring, counseling, medical and social services.

* Travelers Aid Society of Los Angeles received $9,000, net proceeds from the Irving Walker Auxiliary’s annual bridge benefit April 4 at the Wilshire Country Club. The auxiliary is a fund-raising arm of Travelers Aid.

* Sunset Hall, Los Angeles’ only retirement home for political progressives and religious liberals, received $18,000, proceeds from two benefits--a June 19 concert at the Music Machine and a garden party sponsored by Robert Foxworth, Barbara Boxer, Richard Dreyfuss, Ed Asner, Judge David Finkle, Pete Seeger and others.
