Memorial Service to Be Monday for Judge Calvin Schmidt

A memorial service for Harbor Municipal Judge Calvin P. Schmidt will be at the Newport Beach Country Club on Monday from noon to 2 p.m.

Schmidt, who served longer than any other judge in Orange County, died suddenly of a heart attack Wednesday night at his home. He was 61.

County Supervisor Thomas F. Riley is expected to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the memorial and a Girl Scout honor guard will present colors. The memorial organizing committee includes lobbyist Frank Michelena, Balboa Bay Club President Tom Deemer, radio commentator Pat Michaels and former Superior Court Judge William Sheffield.

A scholarship fund for the Girl Scouts is being established; donations can be sent to the Calvin P. Schmidt Scholarship Fund, Orange County Council of Girl Scouts, 1620 Adams Ave., Costa Mesa, 92627.

Private funeral services will be conducted Tuesday in Glendale. A public viewing will take place at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills today between 2 and 9 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
