Japanese food, art and entertainment will be offered as the Japanese-American community of North County celebrates its 12th annual Obon Summer Festival from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The site of the festival is the Vista Buddhist Temple at 150 Cedar Road.

Obon Odori, a traditional Japanese line dance, will be performed at 6:30 p.m. both nights. Other entertainment will include martial arts demonstrations, Japanese classical dancing and Japanese folk music.

Food offerings will include sushi, tempura chicken and beef teriyaki and various noodle dishes. Japanese-American hotdogs and Japanese-Mexican chili will also be sold.

The Obon festival and dance combine a joyful summer festival with a grateful remembrance of deceased ancestors. The festival is hosted by the Vista Buddhist Temple and the Japanese Cultural Center.

Admission is free. The Buddhist Temple is one block east of the Tri-City Medical Center between College Boulevard and Emerald Drive. Free parking will be provided next door to the temple.
