CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : FRESNO : Man Charged in 6 IRS Bomb Attempts
An aerospace engineer reportedly angry about a denied tax deduction has been indicted in connection with six attempts to bomb Internal Revenue Service offices in California. Dean Harvey Hicks, 45, was charged with “using destructive devices, bombs and mortars” against federal facilities, U.S. attorney’s spokeswoman Carol Livitsky said. Hicks also was accused of “attempting to impair and impede” collection of federal income taxes. No one was hurt by the attempted bombings in Los Angeles and Orange counties between 1987 and 1990 and at the regional processing center in Fresno on April 1 of this year.
