Residents Divided Over Fox’s Plans
I have lived in Cheviot Hills for 36 years. It used to be a lovely community until the developers arrived and our city councilman buckled in to “progress.” Now you can’t drive down Pico Boulevard without encountering horrific traffic jams.
It wasn’t bad enough that we had a new mall without enough parking spaces, thereby forcing the neighbors to get permit parking in front of their homes. Now we have a bridge over Westwood Boulevard, yet another new mall, and while we were fighting that a huge structure appeared across the street.
Now, 20th Century Fox wants to expand, bringing more than 1,000 additional cars to Pico Boulevard, plus all of the new condominiums and office buildings that will add to the population density of an already overextended area.
Our councilman, Zev Yaroslavsky, was opposed to this new 20th Century Fox plan just two years ago. He has since changed his mind. Why, when his constituents--who are homeowners in Cheviot Hills, West Los Angeles and environs--are opposed to the added congestion that such a project would bring to our community? Our questions go unanswered by our city councilman.
