Walnut : Street Sales to Be Prohibited
The City Council on Wednesday gave final approval to a measure that effectively prohibits merchants such as flower vendors and rug dealers from selling their wares on Walnut street corners.
The council voted 5 to 0 to adopt an ordinance that bans open-air sales in commercial areas. However, the council added several exemptions for endeavors including Christmas tree lots and pumpkin patches.
The ordinance, which takes effect in 30 days, was prompted by complaints from business owners who said roadside vendors were hurting the sales of established merchants, especially florists.
