A hitchhiker suffered serious head injuries Sunday when he was struck by a pickup truck along a freeway interchange, the California Highway Patrol said.
The unidentified man was struck about 12:30 p.m. as he stood along westbound Interstate 905 where it connects to northbound I-805, authorities said.
The driver of the truck, Jose Felix, 23, had apparently been traveling about 55 m.p.h. when the traffic in front of him began to slow, officers said. As he looked over his shoulder at the oncoming cars behind him before changing lanes, his truck struck the pedestrian.
The hitchhiker was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition. The driver was not cited, authorities said.
