A 44-year-old Garden Grove man was struck and killed as he attempted to run across one of the city’s busiest streets Saturday night.

Police Sgt. Larry Ebelt said the man was running north across Chapman Avenue near Buckingham Circle west of Haster Street at about 10 p.m. Saturday when he was hit.

The victim was dead on arrival at UCI Medical Center in Orange, police said. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

“At that particular time on a Saturday night, Chapman can be busy,” said Ebelt. Police don’t know why the victim dashed into the street at that location, he added.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the victim was not charged with any wrongdoing, Ebelt said, but the investigation of the accident is continuing.
