Boy, 14, Shot While Visiting School Campus
A 14-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound in the leg Tuesday afternoon at Enterprise Middle School in Compton while visiting a friend who held a summer job there.
Thearon Steen, wounded while trying to flee with his friend from two gun-toting gang members who came onto the campus, was taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center for treatment. City and school police said Steen’s injury was not serious.
Police were searching the neighborhood after the shooting, looking for two teen-agers believed to be gang members. According to police, the two gang members went onto the campus to challenge Steen and his friend, who are not gang members. Earlier the same day, school police said, they found a gun on a teen-ager who worked at Centennial High School on the city’s northwest side.
