Boston 11, Oakland 10--Rickey Henderson opened Wednesday night’s game at Boston with a home run. It was the 47th time he has opened a game with a homer.

But Jack Clark had the last laugh.

Clark, booed much of the season by Red Sox fans because of poor hitting, hit a home run with two out in the 14th inning to give Boston an 11-10 victory over the Athletics.

It was the third home run of the game for Clark. His first, in the third inning, was a grand slam off Dave Stewart.

In the 14th, Clark hit a 2-and-2 pitch from Stev Chitren far over the screen in left-center field for his 17th home run and the victory.

Clark drove in six runs in his first three-home-run game.

Greg Harris (7-11) pitched four hitless innings of relief to get the victory, striking out five. Wade Boggs went five for seven, including three doubles and a walk as Boston dropped the A’s five games out of first place in the American League West.

Boggs singled in a run with one out in the ninth inning as the Red Sox rallied from a 10-6 deficit to send it into extra innings.
