Girl Slips, Falls to Her Death Off 250-Foot Cliff
An East Los Angeles girl walking with friends along a Rancho Palos Verdes cliff slipped and plummeted 250 feet to her death early Friday morning, sheriff’s deputies said.
Mary Cardenas, 17, was with her boyfriend and two other couples about 2 a.m. near the Point Vicente Interpretive Center just off Palos Verdes Drive West when she fell, Sheriff’s Sgt. Noel Lanier said.
She was killed instantly in the fall. A team of four search-and-rescue workers brought her body up from the base of the cliff after daylight. Homicide detectives who investigated the girl’s death believe it was an accident, Lanier said, but the coroner’s office has been asked to determine the exact cause of death.
