ANAHEIM : Woman Killed as Car Flips on Freeway

Share

An unidentified woman was killed Friday morning when the car she was driving went out of control and flipped on the Santa Ana Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The single-car accident near the Chapman Avenue off-ramp occurred shortly after 8 a.m. and tied up commute traffic for more than an hour while emergency workers and officers investigated, CHP Officer Mel Baker said.

The woman was northbound about 55 m.p.h. in the center lane when she lost control of her 1985 Ford Mustang, Baker said. The car veered sharply to the left, crossing the fast lane and striking the cement divider.

The impact sent the car skidding on its left side for several yards. The woman was not wearing a seat belt and was partly ejected, which killed her almost instantly, Baker said.

Paramedics and officers found the woman’s crushed body pinned underneath the car, Baker said.

No other cars were involved.

“If she had been wearing a seat belt, the consequences might have been different,” Baker said.
