Dukes in Thick of TeamTennis Playoff Race
The Newport Beach Dukes, still in the hunt for a TeamTennis playoff berth, play the Atlanta Thunder, featuring Martina Navratilova, at 4:30 p.m. today at the DeKalb (Ga.) Tennis Center.
The Dukes (6-6) are a half-match ahead of the Wichita Advantage (6-7) in the race for the third and final playoff berth in the West Division. Victories today and Sunday against the Charlotte Heat would clinch a berth.
If the Dukes split their final two regular-season matches, they would qualify for the playoffs if Wichita loses to Sacramento (5-8) Saturday.
Should the Dukes make the playoffs, they will play the Los Angeles Strings, led by Jimmy Connors, at 7 Tuesday night at the Forum.
