Mission Traffic Jams

Share

Throughout the 15 years that I have had residence in Oceanside, weekend vehicular traffic circulation has been clumped en masse on Highway 76 (a.k.a. Mission Avenue) because of the crowds generated by the money-raisers put on by the Mission San Luis Rey and/or its designates.

Vehicular traffic flow for three miles east and west is brought to a standstill because of these attractions. Need for additional funding is an ever-present fact of life for a church’s survival, but the in-line delay often exceeds 30 minutes of gridlock sitting time for hundreds of motorists stranded in the jam.

Would it be beneath their dignity to suggest that one of our elected representatives assume a public relations stance and make movements necessary to correct the situation by arranging to have Oceanside police or California Highway Patrol traffic-control officers take charge and move the lines?

A traffic jam is not one of a driver’s just deserts. The sit-and-wait situation at the intersection of Rancho del Oro Drive must be corrected. Not only is it as farcical as a Keystone Cops comedy, it is wasteful of expensive fuels, pollutive of the air which we and the other animals must breathe, but also, and of greater consequence, it is damnable for its procrastinative and hazardous neglect.
