The Utah Jazz signed guard Jeff Malone, the team’s No. 2 scorer, to a five-year contract reportedly worth about $2 million a year.
Malone earned $916,000 last year and became a restricted free agent at the end of last season. If he had accepted an offer from another NBA team, the Jazz would have had the opportunity to match it.
Malone, 30, averaged 18.6 points a game on 50.8% shooting in his first season with the Jazz after being acquired from the Washington Bullets last summer in a three-team deal. He also made 91% of his free throws, the second-best percentage in the NBA.
