Versailles Treaty Wins Alabama
Favored Versailles Treaty cruised to the lead on the final turn and pulled away down the stretch for a 4 1/2-length victory in the $200,000 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga Saturday.
The 1 1/4-mile race for 3-year-old fillies was run without heavily favored Meadow Star, who was scratched Saturday morning when trainer LeRoy Jolley deemed the track too wet from Friday’s rain.
Versailles Treaty, who won Saratoga’s Test Stakes two weeks ago, settled behind the pace set by Car Gal before making her winning move and finishing the race in 2:02 2/5 over a track labeled good.
Versailles Treaty, ridden by Angel Cordero Jr., paid $3.80, $3.20 and $2.40. The daughter of Danzig earned $120,000 and has $314,996 in career winnings. She has won five of eight starts this year and is six for nine lifetime.
