A fire ignited by a candle in a plastic holder gutted the upper story of a two-story Saugus house, injuring a 5-year-old girl and causing $150,000 in damage, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said Tuesday.

Firefighters arrived at the home in the 27000 block of Canones Place near Garza Drive about 11:30 p.m. Monday and put out the fire within 20 minutes, Capt. Dave Flagg said.

The girl was treated for burns to her left shoulder at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia and released, Flagg said.

“The little girl had a candle in her room, and it apparently burned through the plastic container she had it in,” Flagg said.
