Judge Allows UFW Into Grape Suit: Pasadena Superior Court Judge Richard Montes ruled that the United Farm Workers can become a party to an antitrust lawsuit filed in June by the California Table Grape Commission against the Vons supermarket chain. The suit was prompted by a Vons’ agreement that it would not advertise grapes in exchange for an end to the UFW boycott of the chain. But as part of a June settlement of the lawsuit, Vons had agreed to begin advertising again. Although Judge Montes tossed out that settlement, a Vons spokeswoman said the firm’s lawyers must review the ruling before deciding if Vons will continue its grape ads. The grape commission said it will appeal the decision.
