Violet B. Carpenter; Early Valley Resident
Violet B. Carpenter, a 1921 graduate of Van Nuys High School whose family members were early residents of Van Nuys, has died at a Red Bluff, Calif., hospital. She was 86.
Mrs. Carpenter died Saturday of complications of a stroke, said her daughter, Joyce Bass of Thousand Oaks.
Born Violet B. Donnelly in Oklahoma, she came to Van Nuys in 1906 with her family. Her father hauled building materials in the San Fernando Valley. She raised her children in Sherman Oaks.
She was a founding member of the Emblem Club of San Fernando and had been a member of the Sherman Oaks Women’s Club and the Order of Eastern Star in Hollywood.
In 1974, she moved to Red Bluff.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her son, Gerald Carpenter of Red Bluff; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Her husband, Calvin Carpenter, died in 1971.
Private services have been held. Forest Lawn Mortuary in Glendale handled the arrangements.
