CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : LINCOLN : 5,000 Turkeys Die at Breeding Farm
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
About 5,000 breeding turkey hens worth more than $500,000 suffocated at a farm east of Lincoln when someone apparently tampered with the breeding shed’s electrical system. Santana Saldivar, ranch manager for Nicholas Turkey Breeding Farms, about 25 miles northeast of Sacramento, said the birds were 6 months old and four weeks away from beginning to lay eggs. The birds had a value of $20 each, but were worth up to $150 in egg production.
