SIMI VALLEY : Council to Continue Shuttle Bus Subsidy

Share

The Simi Valley City Council saved the Moorpark College shuttle bus Monday by continuing to subsidize service that connects the college with Simi Valley.

Under the plan, the city will spend $16,456 during the school year to keep buses running every 30 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The shuttles make a loop from Madera Road in the western end of Simi Valley to the college on Campus Road.

Simi Valley officials have been trying to come up with new ways to finance the shuttle since May, when the council voted to eliminate the service because of low ridership. Only about 30 students rode the shuttle each day, they said.

But Simi Valley residents and college students complained that the shuttle is their only means of transportation to the campus and gathered petitions urging Simi Valley to continue the service.

Simi Valley shares cost of the service with the Ventura County Community College District.

The district has agreed to contribute $16,455 to keep the shuttle bus going.
