SAN CLEMENTE : Woman Awakened, Raped at Knifepoint

A 28-year-old San Clemente woman was raped at knifepoint by a man who walked through the unlocked front door of her home as she slept on the couch, police said Wednesday.

The victim, who had fallen asleep while watching television, described the attacker as 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, muscular, with curly, dirty-blond hair to his shoulders, a thick mustache and eyebrows, a cleft chin and perfect teeth.

She said the rapist was 28 to 32 years old and was wearing a white painter’s cap, a brownish gold tank top and baggy-legged black and white pants with an elastic waist band. His face was unshaven and he had the smell of alcohol on his breath, she said.

Sgt. Jim Thomas said the victim was “afraid to scream” and her roommate in another part of the home did not hear the attack, which occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday. After the assault, the rapist apparently fled on foot, police said, because no vehicle was heard leaving.

Police Investigator Barth Massey said he did not believe the attack was related to the serial rapist who is suspected of committing up to five other rapes in the city.
