BREA : Consultants Hired to Plan City Growth
The City Council has approved hiring a team of consultants that will come up with plans to develop areas within Brea’s sphere of influence.
Council members voted 4-0 Tuesday to spend $226,800 on the nine-member team, including an architect, landscaper, financial planner, geologist, transportation planner and biologist.
Land within a “sphere of influence” is currently unincorporated, but eligible for annexation to a city pending the approval of the Local Agency Formation Commission. Brea has 4,762 acres within its sphere of influence.
Usually, the city hires a single consulting firm to prepare a plan for developing such land, and that firm then hires other professionals to complete the team. In this case, Brea officials have selected individual consultants, saving as much as $300,000.
