STANTON : Party Will Benefit Ailing 8-Year-Old

Share

A daylong party to benefit an 8-year-old girl suffering from a potentially fatal blood disorder will be held Sunday at American Legion Post 783 at 11320 Beach Blvd.

Christie Kowalsky suffers from aplastic anemia, a curable blood disorder that has left her open to a wide range of infections and in constant need of blood transfusions. She has been hospitalized repeatedly over the past few months.

Christie needs a bone marrow transplant, and although only one in 20,000 people is likely to be a perfect match, her family and doctors hope that they can find a suitable donor.

Tickets for the event are $3.50 and all the money raised will be used to pay for blood testing of potential donors.

A pancake breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. and a spaghetti dinner will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Also, races, bake sales and raffles will take place throughout the event. Children under 6 years old can eat for free.

Donations may also be made to the Christie Kowalsky Fund at Security Pacific National Bank, 9862 Chapman Ave., Garden Grove, Calif. 92642. For more information, call the Stanton Chamber of Commerce, (714) 995-1485.
