They Don’t Want Downing in Booth
Reader Bill Ludlum (Aug. 17) insults the Los Angeles sports fan almost to the extent that Al Downing does virtually every time he is allowed to pontificate in front of an open microphone. Downing’s usual opening salvo is, “The average fan does not understand . . . “ or “Most of you don’t know . . . “
Downing’s ego and latent prejudice, combined with his total overestimate of his own intelligence, has not been seen since the heyday of Howard Cosell.
