Lucero Wins Four-Lap Speedway Main Event

COSTA MESA — Steve Lucero of Riverside took the lead out of the gate and was the wire-to-wire winner of the four-lap scratch main speedway event Friday at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Gary Hicks of Riverside was second, Mike Faria of Colton third and Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa fourth.

Faria, starting 50 yards back, won the eight-lap handicap main event. He took over the lead on the fourth lap and led the rest of the way. Hicks was second and Ed Castro of Ojai was third.
