A 29-year-old Corona man was charged with murder Monday in the shooting death of a man outside a North Hollywood bar last week.

Jesus Preciado pleaded not guilty in San Fernando Municipal Court to charges that he killed Fernando Ortiz, 26, Deputy Dist. Atty. Myron L. Jenkins said.

Preciado shot Ortiz after he insulted Preciado’s mother during an argument outside La Zona Rosa in the 6400 block of Lankershim Boulevard early Friday, Jenkins said.

Ortiz was shot as he sat behind the wheel of his parked car and apparently tried to escape, stepping on the gas and sending the car across Lankershim and into a building, police said. Officers who found Ortiz initially thought that he was the victim of a fatal car crash. No one else was injured.

Preciado was arrested later that morning at a Glendale motel where he fled after the shooting, Jenkins said. He was being held without bail. Police said Ortiz was a transient and had no permanent address.
