Seven of the eight young people killed in an Aug. 10 highway crash in eastern Contra Costa County had traces of alcohol in their systems, the California Highway Patrol reported. The one passenger showing no trace of alcohol was a 15-year-old girl, according to the CHP. One 15-year-old had a level of 0.01%, and five other passengers had levels over 0.08%, Officer C.W. It had earlier been announced that Bryan Sherman, 21, driver of the pickup truck carrying the eight, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16%, twice the amount that is considered legally drunk under state law. The group was heading home from a waterfront party when the truck spun into the path of an oncoming vehicle, according to CHP reports.
